Matt's Having a Ball
Blues
Birthday Bash in Fellsmere, Florida saw
the return of Matt "Guitar" Murphy. On
November 15th, Matt took the stage with
the support from Tim O'Donnell and Phil
Ori from The Nouveaux Honkies, Darrel
Raines and George Caldwell from the
Darrel Raines Band and Frank Bauer from
Alvin Jett and the PhatNoiz Band. Matt
took the stage right from the start
with
the group and warmed up quickly. He
sang "Sweet Home Chicago" and then went
into sides from his past with Memphis
Slim and Junior Parker. Guitarist, Tim
O'Donnell would lean in after songs and
call out any number of tunes from Matt's
past and Matt would light up and rip
right into them just like he played them
yesterday. Matt was in great spirits and
cracked jokes to the crowd and his
playing had the crowd going wild. He
played his famed "Matt's Guitar Boogie"
to close the show. Before the song
started, Tim announced to the crowd, "A
book of licks could be written just
from this one song. If there are any
guitar players in the crowd be careful
because this might just scar you for
life." The song featured Matt playing
some of his signature licks and then
licks that just happened on the spot.
The crowd gave him a standing O upon his
leaving the stage. Matt "Guitar" Murphy
is back and his show that night
definitely proved that.
